SAN DIEGO LIGHTNING HISTORY

Welcome to the home of San Diego Lightning Softball. The original Lightning team was formed by Sala and Bob Iuli with Bob Castillanos assisted by Tim Smith and Fred Quilalung, and then joined by current coach Akira Eigner. As it grew and the team matured under the same staff for over ten years, it became one of the most successful teams not only in Southern California, but also in the country. Then head coach Akira Eigner retired from coaching in 2000. He re-entered softball in 2004 and re-established San Diego Lightning in September of 2005 with a single 14 & Under team and an experienced coaching staff with years of softball experience in not only coaching, but playing the game as well. The current team is now an 18 Under Team.

San Diego Lightning Softball Club offers all its athletes an opportunity to participate in a voluntary, highly competitive level fast pitch softball program in order that they may experience and acquire the important lessons and rewards of team-oriented sports. We stress dedication, desire, discipline, commitment, integrity, respect, and teamwork, Athletes representing San Diego Lightning Softball will not only improve their athletic skills, but we also believe that participating, experiencing, and being part of a successful positive program nurtures and fosters solid citizens and tomorrows leaders. San Diego Lightning Softball Club believes in academic achievement as well, requiring its athletes to maintain a 3.0 GPA to participate in its softball program.
